Farewell to Brunswick

The winds have died down and should be low for the next few days.  We’ve met a lovely couple and fellow Loopers, Craig and Carolyn on CWay who ventured out a few days ago.   They generously send us updates on anchorages and conditions along the route north.   We’re ready to let loose the lines.

The evening before we were to leave, Ralph and Beverly Brogdon from the sailing vessel (s/v), Fugue, came by to give us their copy of The Great Book of Anchorages by Chuck Baier and Susan Landry.  We had borrowed the book during our stay at Brunswick Landing.  Ralph is now the dockmaster at Brunswick Landing Marina and he and Bev don't expect to be doing any long-distance cruising for awhile.  They most generously gifted us their copy.   And that's the friendly and giving people we keep meeting along the way. Thank you, Bev and Ralph!

We’ve spent a lot of time in Brunswick.  We take with us fond memories of great food, kind people, a friendly marina community, as well the quirky side of the place.....

The flags of Brunswick - indicating the 5 different flags that flew here over time: Spain - first raised in 1526; France - from 1562-1564; Great Britain- 1736 -1776 when it was replaced by the 13 stars and stripes; the American flag was taken down when Georgia joined its sister states, declaring its secession from the Union; 1865, the War Between the States ended and the American flag flew again - and grew to have 50 stars for our 50 states.
The Diamondback terrapin is a salt marsh turtle that lives throughout coastal Georgia.  May thru July the females search for higher ground in which to lay their eggs.  Many try to cross the busy roads.

Southern catfish, coleslaw, hush puppies, string beans - YUM!
Yes, that's the back of Bazinga, but more 'Brunswick' is the paper plant in the distance.  When the wind came from the NW, we were treated to some strong cellulose aroma!
Unusual water fowl - haven't figured out what this guy is yet!
